About KateyB

I recently gave up teaching as a college mathematics professor after 19 years - I couldn't teach at the level I felt my students deserved. It's been over a year but I still miss it terribly. I ignored my symptoms for years: busy mother of two, working and going to college, then taking care of my mother (cancer), and teaching full-time. They were not debilitating episodes, and any of you moms out there know it's easy to ignore yourself when you're busy with family and work. It's a slow progressive type of MS. I love singing, reading science fiction, playing chess, dominoes and cribbage.

More About KateyB

I received my Masters in Applied Mathematics with distinction from Hofstra University, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa while there. I was also inducted into Kappa Mu Epsilon, a mathematics honor society. During my studies there, I proved my ability to multiply. I had my daughter Laura. She's 21 now, and majoring in Nursing at SUNY Binghamton. My son, Bill, is 33 now, and spent a stint in the Army, including a year in Iraq. He's only been back a short time. I'm lucky he made it back.

As a teacher, I was prone to jokes and awful puns. I sang, I rapped, I stood on the table, anything to keep my students awake and engaged. Must've worked: I was honored with the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. I have also been included in Who's Who Among America's Teachers and Who's Who Among America's Women. Nice, but it doesn't pay the mortgage!

I spent 25 years performing in little theater in a small community nearby. In fact, my daughter made her theatrical debut prenatally. Here are some pics of me after two shows - one with my son and one with my daughter. (I think the shows were about 15 years apart.)
