About hummingbird

I'm 43 and have 2 boys ages 14 & 11, and Murphy, my 95 pound Mutt. I've been married for 18 years. I grew up in Portland OR and went to pharmacy school at OSU (Oregon State) where I met my husband, an engineer. He took a job with an oil company so we lived in Jakarta Indonesia for 3 years. I still work part time as a pharmacist. With 3 guys, our family is pretty involved in Boy Scouts. I always told myself that I would do a marathon the year I turned 40. Instead, I did the MS Challenge Walk - 50 miles in 3 days. I finished 47 of those 50 miles!!!

More About hummingbird

I was shocked (a bit) to see that I have technically had MS for over 20 years.  I had ON in 1990, but no other symptoms until 1999.  From 1999 until 2005 my symptoms were mild and seemed unrelated.  In fact, in 2004 I laughed at a urologist for suggesting I get checked for MS.

I had a bad exacerbation at the end of 2005 which I never received treatment for.  It took 5 different neurologists in 6 months to get a 'probable MS' diagnosis, and eventually get diagnosed with MS.  The first three doctors thought I was crazy for suggesting that I had MS.

We were talking about adopting a girl in 2005 right before I got sick.  We are now in the matching process for a girl under the age of 3.

Up until recently I worked part time as a pharmacist, but I was laid off.  It's hard to find a decent part time job.  After my last job, I know that I could not hold down a full time job very easily.  I have a new MS doctor and he will do some cognitive testing soon to see if I can continue to work.
