Updated April 2010. I am now a 56 year-old MD (Family Doc) who noticed symptoms in my right hand in May 2004, quickly saw a neurologist and had tests and an MRI, and diagnosed myself with ALS by the end of the month. I worked for 2 years then retired. I am now on Hospice. I wrote an article for the LA Times: http://articles.latimes.com/2009/jul/26/opinion/oe-welsh26 and as a result will be featured in a PBS documentary this fall 2010: www.onestepcloserfilm.org It is about MAKING YOUR OWN CHOICES; not about giving up, or suicide, or anything like that.
