Advice & Tips
I was diagnosed with moderate depression after taking sick leave from a high stress job in a medical field. I began taking 20 mg OD Citalopram with no side effects for 3 weeks. During my 4th week I began experiencing anxiety and severe panic attacks lasting up to 4hrs in length twice daily, I lost emotional connection with loved ones and family, I experienced derealization and depersonalization so severely I was in constant fear which started the circle of panic attacks and anxiety. I was unable to eat for two weeks and lost 20lbs in one. I went from a highly functioning individual to an individual that was not capable of taking care of her own children with fear of ending up in a psychiatric hospital on a form one within 3 weeks of taking this medicine. I stopped taking this pill in the fourth week after listing my house and quitting my job to move back home with my parent 16 hours away so my children would be cared for properly. It took me ~5 months to begin feeling like 'me' on a daily basis, and now 8 months later I still have my moments. I am convinced that although I was experiencing a high level of daily stressors, those stressors were not the cause of the symptoms. Please use this medication as a last resort, visit your Dr. often, record everything, keep track of changes.
