I ended up having a major nervous breakdown when my husband was in Afghanistan. I was left in Germany with three children and a friend. I thought one of the persons that was helping me was a friend but I found out instead of "taking" care of me and helping me out she was putting idea's into (at the time my 4 year old) daughters head that my husband was dead. It was hard because from time to time he would call use and let us know that he was okay. He couldn't call everyday, but he could call. It went on for about a month that my daughter kept telling me that "my daddy is dead" and wouldn't talk to him on the phone. My best friend at the time tried to convince me that it was just a child being a child. I found out later it wasn't a child being a child but someone putting the idea's into her head. I starting working at the local base a AAFES and I was doing good. I was surviving. My kids were in school, my best friend would watch them after school and I couldn't sleep for days/weeks at a time. It didn't matter, I was functioning. Well after four months of this and doing well, I thought, I just ended up crashing. A friend (well who I thought was a friend) managed to convince me that my husband didn't want me anymore and that things weren't what they were. That everything that he had told me was a lie. I tried to get a hold of my husbands commander and he refused to help me and I threatened to kill him. I was getting tired of getting the run around and I was tired of life itself at that point, so I tried to kill myself. I ended up in Landstuhl Hospital in the mental ward section because of my nervous breakdown. After that, I got to the point that everyone was after me, that they weren't trying to be my friend that they were after my family like this girl that caused all the trouble. My best friend however managed to stay with me throughout the whole ordeal and it was a relief. My husband got discharged from the Military because of I became to unstable to be alone and to this day I am afraid to go out into public by myself because I'm afraid something is going to happen to me. I am also afraid of bringing people into my home because I am afraid they are going to steal my family. I am also afraid of people because I was rapped backed in 2004. It was the worst 2 years of my life. So I have become afraid of people and it seems that no matter what medications I am on I still have problems going out into public.. I am getting better with "having friends". I have 3 so far that have not harmed me or hurt me, or my family. Sure they are human and they make mistakes, but I love my best friend today. She is a wonderful woman and I want to hold onto her for dear life! I love my husband and family and they have been the best support in my life. Even still, I have trouble going to public places and facing the fear that I just can't be there alone.
