About HuskerKat

I am 50 years old. I have had seizures and ADHD since I was a child. The seizures began when I was 91/2 years old. When I was a child they were Complex Partial seizures that would that would generalize to that of what appeared to be Grand Mal. The doctors were very confused as the study of Epilepsy was only in its infancy then. For many treatments I was basically a test subject and all treatments were trial and error. I am very glad to be finally seizure controlled now for the last few years very successfully. Thank God for advances in the study of Epilepsy and Seizure Control!

More About HuskerKat

My Seizures as I mentioned above were not controlled until I was an adult and began to see an Epilepsy Specialist. I had up to this time seen a general Neurologist. We found the cause to my Seizures and better knew how to treat them. When there was a cause and an actual name to them, (Complex Partial) There were better treatments out there for me. I had a Vegas Nerve Stimulator put in during 2003 and my seizures have all but stopped except for about 1 per year and then only if I get really tired or overly stressed. Prior to this I had an MRI that told us the cause of my seizures. Apparently I had a stroke in while still in my mother's whoom, my right brain is majorly underdeveloped but I have never lacked the abilities of that side of my brain. My doctor calls me her miracle patient. I do lots of artistic things and crafts and sing and all sorts of things that are mainly dominated by the right brain. She has said that because my stroke happened at such a young age my left brain took over and did everything that the right brain was suppose to do. I say God saved the things for me that I love today because He knew that one day they would be of great service to me and would help me not to stress. Cool   I have 2 small dogs, a Chihuahua, Maizie, and a Maltese, Luci, that also help in the control of my seizures by keeping me de-stressed and making me laugh daily. My doctor and I both think that animals are important to control of seizures if at all possible to the patient to have themaround due to their loving nature and that they keep you happy and always love unconditionally and are there for you when you have a bad day. My chihuahua has learned on her own to alert to my health and can let me know when a seizure may be coming by the way she behaves. She circles constantly at my feet and will be very nervous like she wants me to sit down. This happened 1 1/2 years ago and I did not pay attention to her, later that day at the hospital with my father, I colapsed and had a light seizure....ever since then I pay attention to her when she begins to act weird around me and sit with her for a while...so far it has only meant that later that day I had a very bad headache but at least she was aware that I had not been feeling good and something was amiss in my brain...She is a very smart little girl...I am very thankful for my girls...though they have 4 legs they are the best children/dogs I could ask for. I recommend animals of some type to all people with disabilities to help with the stress. They are my saving grace!!!
