What is the PatientsLikeMeMentors(TM) program?
The PatientsLikeMeMentors™ program is designed to help you find answers to your medical questions quickly and easily by connecting with other patients like you.
New to the site or just looking for answers from patients with a particular expertise? You can connect with a Mentor. Want to share what you know to help others? You can be a Mentor.
(NOTE: This is program is currently only available for Multiple Sclerosis patients and Organ Transplant recipients.)

How do I become a Mentor?
Got your 3 stars? Great! You're ready to go. Just email mentors@patientslikeme.com and ask for a Mentor invitation. You'll get the invitation in your PatientsLikeMe inbox. Once you accept, you will be added to the directory of Mentors and a badge will appear on your profile so others can begin contacting you with their questions.
(NOTE: This is program is currently only available for Multiple Sclerosis patients and Organ Transplant recipients.)
-
How do I interact with a Mentor?
Visit the Mentor directory on the Patients tab anytime to see a list of all the members ready to share what they know. You can search the directory and filter the list by age, gender and other factors. Once you find a Mentor, simply send that person a private message with your question. Didn't get the answer you needed? Ask someone else. If you would like more opinions, you might also want to post to the forum.
(NOTE: This is program is currently only available for Multiple Sclerosis patients and Organ Transplant recipients.)

As a mentor, what is my role?
It's simple - just sign up for the program and answer other members' questions through private messaging. As a mentor, you'll be on a list so members know they can contact you about the topics you choose. Getting a lot of the same questions? Consider reposting your answer in the forum so everyone can benefit from the conversation.
Once you're a Mentor, you can take a break from the program at any time. To do so, go to your Account settings and select "No, I'm not available." You can reactivate your Mentor status at any time in your Account settings as well.
-
As a Mentor, how do I help someone fill out their profile?
The 3-star guide is always a good place to start when helping members learn more about sharing data with the community. If a member needs a lot of technical support, please feel free to refer them to support@patientslikeme.com or the “Technical Help Using PatientsLikeMe” forum room.
-
I'm a Mentor receiving questions about specific treatments. What resources can I use to help me provide answers?
Treatment reports are the best way to give patients information about how the community is experiencing a treatment. There are links to other patients currently taking the medications as well as helpful evaluations about treatments completed by other patients. You can also point them to forum posts tagged with the treatment.
-
As a Mentor, what should I do if I can't answer a question?
-
As a Mentor, should I be giving medical advice?
No. You should share your experience, and point to resources to learn. It's this type of sharing and learning that helps patients like you make decisions about how to manage their disease. If you feel the patient needs medical help, please ask him or her to speak to a healthcare professional.
