What is Sodium Bicarbonate?

Sodium bicarbonate is an antacid and electrolyte supplement used for various reasons including gastric hyperacidity, treatment of hyperkalemia and management of overdose of certain drugs. As an antacid it is available as an over the counter product but other uses require a prescription.
