What is cerebral embolism?

A cerebral embolism refers to a blood clot or other foreign material that has formed in another part of the circulatory system and then traveled through blood vessels until reaching an area that it cannot pass through. When the embolism becomes lodged in a vessel, it usually leads to an infarction.
