What is central retinal artery occlusion?

Central retinal artery occlusion is a blockage in one of the small arteries that carry blood to the retina. This blockage obstructs the vision signals to the brain causing blurred vision or loss of vision. Usually this is caused by hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) and formation of clots.
