What is Simvastatin?

Simvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering drug belonging to a class of drugs called "statins". In patients with one or more risk factors for heart disease, Simvastatin can be helpful in preventing cardiovascular disease. Simvastatin was developed by Merck and is now available as a generic drug.
