Ear popping is a result of the fluid in the middle ear becoming thickened, usually as the result of a cough or cold. The 'Eustachian tube' becomes blocked by this sticky fluid, or mucus. Pressure builds up in the ear which is released with a pop when you talk, swallow, blow your nose or or eat.
