Cortisol, a corticosteroid hormone is produced by the adrenal gland. It increases blood pressure, blood sugar, and reduces immune responses. The synthetic form is hydrocortisone, and is used to treat allergies and inflammation, and to supplement natural cortisol when its production is too low.
