What is Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)? Vitamin C (L-ascorbate) is an antioxidant that humans cannot synthesize so it must be ingested via fruit or other sources. Small doses may reduce the severity and duration of colds. It is available in various formulations to be taken by mouth or by injection.
