Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, also known as SMX-TMP or cotrimoxazole, is a combination of sulfamethoxazole, an antibacterial sulfonamide, and trimethoprim. The combination eliminates bacteria that cause many kinds of infections, including pneumonia and urinary tract and intestinal infections.
